Adoptions

Unlike divorces, adoptions are usually happy occasions for clients. Our office particularly enjoys helping families with their adoption needs. Adoptions can include domestic, international, step-parent adoptions, or adult adoptions. Legal adoption in North Carolina is governed by state statute and the statutory procedures set forth in Chapter 48 of the North Carolina General Statutes. The statutory procedures for legal adoptions will differ depending on whether it is a private adoption or agency adoption. Different articles under Chapter 48 cover adoptions of minors, adult adoptions, stepparent adoptions, and the re-adoptions of a child by his or her natural parent after a stepparent adoption. Because strict compliance with statutory procedures is required, it is advisable to hire a family law attorney to handle your adoption.

If you want to know all of your options, call the Law Office of Shawna Collins to schedule a phone conference or an in office appointment with Shawna and find out the best course of action for your case.

The above is not legal advice. That can only come from a qualified attorney who is familiar with all the facts and circumstances of a particular, specific case and the relevant law. See Terms of Use.
